My First Thoughts on Lord of The Flies
I think the book started with a ‘bang’ and then got a bit slow. Its starts off with the guys crashing on the island (and the pilot (the only grownup) has died). Thats the first chapter and I think thats pretty intense for the first chapter of the book. So law & order starts to build with kids working hard, but slowly, or actually quite fast, it all collapses with people getting lazy and joking around and the littl’uns getting scared.
Right now im enjoying the book and I have to admit that the long descriptions that Golding is very well known for, bores me slightly. But I can still see that he is very good at it because I have read other book with long descriptions which were completely boring…
I can sense that the pase has quickened with the kids starting to talk about the ’bestie’ more often, which I am very happy with because it was going quite slowly in my opinion. Olso the ship passing by the island but the hunters not keeping the fire on was another sign that Ralph and Jack are starting to look at one another in disbelief.
I agree that the conch represents order because everytime Ralph wants a meeting he’d just blow it and everyone would come running. But as everyone is starting to get bored of Ralph, and law & order is starting to crumble and the conch starts to whither.

Good work Hassan. I think you have a very good idea of the basic plot and themes of the book. I agree that the long passages can get tiresome, but the action coming up should keep you going. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts when we finish.
